Adelaide Festival

The Adelaide Festival covers over 2 weeks in early March, and is considered one of the world’s greatest art events.  It is Australia’s largest multi-arts festival.  First conceived in 1960, the Adelaide Festival has developed a reputation for bringing the most innovative artists, productions and companies from all corners of the earth.  The main focus of the festival is on contemporary work, featuring exciting new work in theatre, dance, cabaret, opera, media, visual arts and literature.  There are also forums, seminars and master classes on offer for people keen to get involved.  The festival even features a purpose built night club!

Adelaide Fringe

The Adelaide Fringe beings at the end of February and continues through mid March.  The Fringe festival began in the same year as the Adelaide Festival as a sort of alternative to its more mainstream counterpart. Over the 3 weeks, the Fringe gives smaller scale artists the opportunity to present their work and encourage audiences and spectators to interact.  Since 2007, the Fringe has become an annual event and only grows in size and reputation with each year.  It is considered the biggest arts event in Australia, and is now internationally recognized, only second to the likes of the Edinburgh Fringe.  It is renown for its fresh and risky output, challenging people’s imaginations and pre-conceptions whilst also offering heaps of fun.

WOMADelaide

WOMADelaide, first launched in 1992, is an annual world music and dance festival held around mid March in Adelaide’s Botanic Park.  With each year it continues to grow, seeing tens of thousands of attendees in more recent years.  There are around seven stages, featuring numerous performances from bands, DJ’s, dancers, theatre artists and street artists.  There are also a number of workshops on offer if you feel like getting involved yourself.

Santos Tour Down Under

The Santos Tour Down Under is ideal for sports fans, especially those into cycling.  Held in the summer month of January, the festival lasts one week and features entertainment as well as road cycling.  As well as watching some world class cycling teams battle it out in the UCI Pro Tour, why not have a go yourself in the Bupa Challenge Tour, attend the Legends’ Night Dinner or even join the VIP program for some star treatment.
